Allahabad HC directs action after vandalism
India, Oct. 29 -- Chairs were hurled, shelves toppled and slogans were raised as Allahabad High Court lawyers on Wednesday vandalised the courtroom of Justice Ajay Bhanot, who allegedly humiliated an advocate, ordered him to be jailed and asked him to apologise to a police officer following an argument over where to sit, even as the court termed the disruption of proceedings "absolutely contempt" and directed its registrar (protocol) to identify those involved in the act to initiate action. The incident came a day after newly elected office-bearers of HC Bar Association wrote to Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, seeking action over the judge's conduct. The association said the dispute arose in justice Bhanot's courtroom when an advocate asked a superintendent of police to vacate a seat, saying it was not his. State counsel brought the incident to the notice of justice Bhanot, who directed the advocate to apologise to the officer.htc...
