Airport guard dragged by cab, critical
Mumbai, June 12 -- A 35-year-old security guard employed with a private agency is battling for his life after being hit and dragged by a speeding cab near Mumbai airport on Tuesday night.
According to the police, the injured guard, Ganesh Pawar, was on duty near Gate No. 7 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) when the incident occurred. His colleague, security in-charge Himanshu Swami, suffered head injuries while trying to help Pawar.
Police said the cab driver, Vinod Singh, was detained shortly after the incident, allegedly while attempting to flee.
Investigators said that Singh was allegedly trying to evade a penalty for violating airport parking rules and for picking up a passenger from the departure area, which is prohibited.
According to Swami's complaint, the incident occurred around 8pm when Singh arrived at the airport departure gate in his cab after dropping off a passenger. Security personnel noticed a disturbance involving the vehicle and attempted to stop it for inspection.
Pawar approached the cab and signalled the driver to halt. Instead, the vehicle allegedly accelerated, knocking him down. Pawar became trapped beneath the cab and was dragged for some distance as the driver continued moving.
On seeing his colleague trapped under the vehicle, Swami rushed to help and attempted to pull Pawar to safety. In the process, he too sustained injuries.
Both men were taken to hospital, where Pawar remains in critical condition. Singh has been booked....
