95 distts account for 50% of informal GVA
India, Sept. 11 -- It takes 130 districts out of around 770 to account for 50% of India's total informal sector establishments outside agriculture and construction. On the other hand, it takes 121 districts to account for half of the sector's workers and just 95 districts to account for 50% of the total GVA (Gross Value Added) of the sector. These statistics are from the district-level report of the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), conducted in 2025 and released by the National Statistics Office on Thursday. There are a large number of informal sector enterprises in India: 79 million in 2025. They account for a large number of workers: 128 million, or 36% of all non-agricultural workers.
