71-year-old woman injured in Bhandup hit and run dies
MUMBAI, Sept. 4 -- A 71-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident at Quarry Road in Bhandup West on Monday succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.
According to the Bhandup police, the deceased, Jaywanti Panchal, was on her way to a temple on Monday evening when she was hit by a vehicle. Panchal suffered injuries on her head and legs and was rushed to Devki Hospital by some auto drivers. After the police alerted her son Sanjay Panchal, 56, who works with the BMC, he shifted her to Criticare Hospital for advanced treatment. On Wednesday, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
"The unidentified driver fled the scene after the accident. We have registered a case and a probe is underway," said a police officer. The accused has been booked under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act....
