1 dead, several injured after speeding bus overturns in raigad district
NAVI MUMBAI, April 7 -- Three persons were killed and several others were injured in three separate road accidents reported in Nagothane in Raigad on Saturday. While the first accident involved a speeding bus overturning on a ghat section, resulting in one death, the second one was a hit-and-run case that killed a motorcyclist and the third one was a fatal skid on a speed breaker.
According to the police, in the first incident, a passenger died and multiple others were injured after a private bus overturned in the early hours of Saturday at Nagothane in Roha taluka.
"The accident occurred around 2.30 am on a ghat stretch near Sukeli village. Police said the driver was allegedly speeding and lost control at a sharp turn on an incline, causing the bus to topple onto left side," said a police officer.
One of the passengers, Naim Jam Sheikh, was crushed under the vehicle and died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries, some of them serious. A case has been registered against the driver for rash and negligent driving under relevant provisions of the law, the officer added.
In a separate incident the same morning, a 28-year-old motorcyclist, Saurabh Santosh Agre, was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near a railway bridge in Nagothane around 8 am. Agre, a resident of Malad East, was travelling towards his native village in Ratnagiri district when the accident occurred.
The offending vehicle fled the spot and police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the vehicle and driver.
In another incident the same evening, a 39-year-old man, Nekumar Parshuram Pokale, died after his motorcycle skidded on a speed breaker near Jain College in Nagothane around 6.15 pm. He suffered severe head injuries in the fall and succumbed to them, said a police officer....
