PRAYAGRAJ, May 27 -- A case of cyber fraud has surfaced in which a man was cheated of Rs 1.15 lakh after being lured into investing in fraudulent online trading platform promising high returns. According to officials, the Dhoomanganj police have registered a case based on a written complaint and have initiated an investigation into the unidentified mobile numbers and bank accounts involved in the scam. The victim, Pranay Ghosh, a resident of Chaufatka, stated in his complaint that he received a call from an unknown number. The caller persuaded him to invest in online trading, assuring him of significant profits and claiming that the platform was registered and legitimate. Trusting these claims, Ghosh transferred a total of Rs 1.15 lakh through UPI in multiple installments. However, after initial transactions, fraudsters began demanding further deposits, citing technical issues as reason. Suspicious of repeated demands, Ghosh realised he had been duped and lodged a complaint at Dhoomanganj police station. The body of a 34-year-old man was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Jagapur village in Pratapgarh under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday, prompting allegations of foul play from his family. According to reports, he was alone at home at time of incident. Around 11 am, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his house.
