Women's group meets SP chief
LUCKNOW, July 8 -- Representatives of various women's organisations, social activists and civil society groups met Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on Tuesday, urging him to press for the immediate implementation of the Women's Reservation Act, 2023, in its original form during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. The delegation said the law should be enforced in time to ensure 33% reservation for women in the 2027 UP assembly polls. According to the delegation as shared in a press statement, Yadav assured the activists that the Samajwadi Party would reiterate the demand for its immediate implementation during the forthcoming Parliament session.
The delegation included former Lucknow mayoral candidate Vandana Mishra, social activist Prof Rupa Rekha Verma, Madhu Garg, Naish Hasan, Kanti Mishra, Meena Singh, Sarojini Bisht, Vandana Rai and Prof Rita Chaudhary among others. "We had earlier submitted similar memoranda to state Congress chief Ajay Rai and AAP leader Sanjay Singh and plan to stage a demonstration outside Parliament during the Monsoon Session as part of a nationwide campaign," the statement said. htc...
