Woman murdered, body dumped 17km away from home: Police
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 8 -- A 24-year-old woman's body was found near the Bhawanigarh canal bridge in Mauaima, Prayagraj, on Friday night. The victim, Muskan Mishra, was allegedly murdered in Pratapgarh and her body was transported nearly 17 km away to Mauaima in an attempt to hide the crime, revealed police investigations. Police arrested Muskan's father-in-law and brother-in-law, booking them under various charges, including dowry death, following a complaint lodged by the deceased's family. The woman;s husband works in Chandigarh.
Muskan, a resident of Mailha village in Baharia, was married to Dheeraj Mishra of Raniganj in Pratapgarh in February, 2023. According to her family, she faced consistent harassment from her in-laws over dowry. Her brother, Sunil, said she had been sent back to her parents' home twice due to the dispute, but after family discussions, she was persuaded to return to her in-laws. He last spoke to her on February 5.
The next day, around 12:30 pm, the deceased's family received a call from Raniganj police station informing them that Muskan's father-in-law, Pushkar Mishra, had lodged a missing-person complaint. He claimed Muskan had left home at 4am with her jewellery and some cash and had not been found despite extensive search. Her family immediately joined the efforts to locate her.
On February 6, a photograph of an unidentified woman found dead near the Mauaima canal bridge began circulating on social media. Around 9.30pm, Sunil, the deceased's brother, saw the photograph and recognised the victim as his sister.htc...
