PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 12 -- A 20-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging at her home late Sunday night after a young man reportedly backed out of his promise to marry her and allegedly threatened her, police said. The woman, a resident of a village under Karachhana police station, had been in a relationship with a youth from her neighbourhood for more than a year. She alleged that he established physical relations with her after promising to marry her. However, when she later pressed him to fulfil the promise, he allegedly backed out, threatened her with dire consequences and stopped communicating. The woman approached Karachhana police on August 4, following which a case was registered against youth on charges of rape on pretext of marriage.
