Lucknow, Aug. 4 -- A Barabanki woman has accused her fiance of duping her family of Rs.4.86 lakh by posing as Reserve Bank of India employee and promising to arrange low-interest bank loans through his official connections. Based on a complaint filed by Ritima Mishra, police registered a case at Gomti Nagar Extension police station and launched an investigation. According to complaint, Ritima came in contact with Sumit Sharma through matrimonial website Jeevansathi.com. Sharma introduced himself as an RBI employee posted in Lucknow. The couple got engaged on November 8, 2025. Ritima alleged that soon after the engagement, Sharma and his family persuaded her relatives to pay money by claiming they could facilitate low-interest loans from government banks. The family handed over Rs.2.53 lakh in cash and transferred another Rs.2.33 lakh online. She further claimed Sharma's mother also projected herself as a bank employee and supported the loan arrangement claims. Suspicion deepened when Ritima visited the Chhota Bharwara address and found house locked. She claimed to have met several people who accused him of similar frauds involving marriage, loans and government jobs.
