LUCKNOW, Aug. 5 -- The Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr RMLIMS), Lucknow, hosted a guest lecture on the elimination of vector-borne diseases, on Tuesday. Dr Tanuuj R Sharma, World Health Organization (WHO) state coordinator for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), said Uttar Pradesh has drastically reduced the prevalence of Visceral Leishmaniasis (Kala-azar) and is nearing its elimination target. The lecture, titled "Status of Vector Borne Disease Elimination Programme in State of UP: Visceral Leishmaniasis & Lymphatic Filariasis," was organised by the department of microbiology in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at RMLIMS, a release shared with the media read. Dr Sharma said initiatives such as the "Ghar Ghar Dastak" programme have strengthened disease detection, while single-dose Ambisome therapy has played a key role in the successful treatment of kala-azar.
