Wall collapse traps four in Varanasi after storm
VARANASI, April 30 -- Four people were trapped after the wall of a building collapsed onto an adjacent submersible repair centre along the Chaukaghat-Hukulganj road on Wednesday afternoon following a storm. Three sustained minor injuries, while one suffered serious injuries before a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued them.
One of the injured is identified as Pavan Kumar. Pavan said he and others were working at the centre when a thunderstorm began and the wall of an adjacent building collapsed.
According to the NDRF, local residents informed them that a wall of a newly constructed building collapsed onto an adjacent house in the Chaukaghat area, approximately 500 metres from the NDRF Headquarters.
An NDRF team, equipped with modern tools and resources, immediately reached the scene under the guidance of deputy inspector general (DIG) Manoj Kumar Sharma. Initially, it was suspected that four individuals were trapped beneath the debris.
During the operation, it was discovered that three individuals had already managed to extricate themselves, sustaining only minor injuries, while one person remained critically trapped. The NDRF team successfully rescued the trapped individual. The injured person was immediately given first aid and rushed to a hospital for treatment, the NDRF said in a statement.
