Lakhimpur Kheri, March 14 -- The vibrant village programme (VVP) II is set to change the face of border villages in half-a-dozen districts of UP including Kheri, Balrampur, Mahrajganj, Shrawasti, Siddharthanagar, which share their boundaries with Nepal. VVP is an ambitious programme sponsored by the Union ministry of home affairs to ensure "safe, secure and vibrant land borders" as part of Viksit Bharat@2047. Arvind Kumar, district statistics officer (DSTO), Kheri, told Hindustan Times, "There are 47 borders villages in Kheri, including 29 in Palia tehsil and 18 in Nighasan tehsil under the VVP-II project with the UP planning department being the nodal agency to implement the programme."He said that around Rs 3 to 4 crore would be allocated for each village with the key focus on infrastructure development, including all weather connectivity, 4-G telecom community, television connectivity and on-grid electrification of these villages.He added with infrastructure development, border specific outreach activities and generation of livelihood opportunities at the local levels, the VVP-II will not only improve the living standards of residents but also strengthen border security.
