Village head's representative faces gun-knife attack; undergoes surgery
PRAYAGRAJ, May 27 -- A violent attack stemming from a long-standing dispute left a village head's representative critically injured after he was shot at and stabbed outside his residence in Kunda area. The victim underwent surgery on Tuesday and is now reported to be out of danger, police said.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Monday in Dayalpur village under Hathigawan police station limits of Pratapgarh. Lal Bahadur Singh alias Lallan Singh, who serves as the village head's representative, was sitting outside his house when two youths arrived on a motorcycle and launched a sudden attack. The assailants fired multiple rounds from a pistol and also attacked him with a knife before fleeing the spot while brandishing their weapons.
Family members immediately rushed the injured Singh to Prayagraj for treatment, where he underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove the bullets. He is currently recovering under police protection.
On the complaint of the victim's father, Kallu Singh, police have registered a case against Harsh Singh, a co-villager, and one unidentified accomplice.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack was the result of a simmering rivalry between the two parties. Apart from an ongoing dispute over residential land in the village, tensions had reportedly escalated during the Durga Puja festivities.
Circle officer (Kunda) Amarnath Gupta confirmed that the injured is now stable. "The operation on Lallan Singh has been successfully completed and he is out of danger. Three police teams are actively working to arrest the accused, and we expect to solve the case soon," he said. htc...
