LUCKNOW, May 26 -- A 26-year-old UPSC aspirant allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Gomti from Pakka Pul in Lucknow's Chowk area on Monday morning, police said. According to the Lucknow Police official statement, information about a youth jumping into the river was received at the Chowk Police Station around 10:15 am. "Soon after receiving the alert, police teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the help of local divers. Given the seriousness of the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force were also deployed to assist in the search operation," said Chowk SHO Nagesh Upadhyay. During the investigation, police identified the deceased as a resident of the Alambagh area. Police said that the youth's mother, who is posted as vice-principal at a college in Hussainabad, informed investigators that her son had appeared in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination on May 24.
