UP police to scrutinise minor complaints to prevent escalation
LUCKNOW, Oct. 30 -- Neighbourhood disputes, land conflicts and complaints lodged at police outposts will face closer scrutiny under a new initiative to prevent minor grievances from escalating into serious crimes.
The move follows the October 29 triple murder in Saadatganj, which reportedly stemmed from a minor dispute known to the police. A complaint had allegedly reached the Kashmiri Mohalla outpost over a month earlier but was ignored, according to the victims' family. The SHO and outpost incharge were removed after the incident.
Recently, Director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna has directed district police chiefs to review pending complaints at police stations and outposts, identify reasons for delays and fix responsibility for negligence. The directions, issued during a statewide review meeting on Tuesday, also require dedicated monitoring desks in the offices of superintendents of police (SPs) and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) to track grievances received, resolved and pending on a daily basis.
The DGP's directions are part of a broader accountability exercise, following action ordered against 10 station house officers (SHOs) across nine districts, including Lucknow's Babu Banarasi Das police station, over multiple pending public grievances.
Police stations have also been directed to identify the 10 most pressing land disputes in their jurisdictions and coordinate with the revenue department to resolve them, taking up the next 10 once these are settled. District police chiefs must submit compliance reports through their respective ranges and zones within three days.htc...
