GORAKHPUR, Aug. 23 -- An undertrial prisoner lodged in Gorakhpur district jail in connection with a case under the Domestic Violence Act allegedly died during treatment at district hospital on Friday night after suffering a seizure while in custody. The deceased was identified as Samir Sheikh, 30, a resident of Jaswal Bazar village. He had been lodged in jail on August 19, 2026. Sheikh suffered a seizure on August 21. Jail superintendent DK Pandey said he was a chronic alcoholic and had been suffering from liver and kidney-related ailments. "The medical team provided him first aid, but his condition did not improve," Pandey said. He was shifted to the hospital, where a doctor declared him dead around 8.30 pm, said jail authorities.HTC...
