LUCKNOW, June 13 -- An undertrial prisoner undergoing treatment at King George's Medical University (KGMU) escaped from custody on Friday. Following the incident, a case was registered at Chowk police station against head constables Dinesh Kumar and Dharmendra Singh who were escorting prisoner identified as Haider Ali, of Odisha's Balasore district, police said.
Chowk SHO Nagesh Upadhyay said teams have been constituted to trace the jail inmate. As per a complaint lodged by district jail warden Ritvik Priyadarshi, the inmate had been lodged in the district jail since January last year. He was sent to jail after being arrested in a case involving allegations of fraud, impersonation and rape on the pretext of marriage.
The complaint says Haider was admitted to jail hospital on May 31, 2026, due to health-related problems. As his condition failed to improve, he was shifted to Balrampur Hospital on June 4 and later referred to KGMU for further treatment. HTC...
