Washington, June 23 -- The US' War Department has notified the US Congress that it plans to sell India defence articles and sustainment services worth $428 million, in order to sustain defence platforms operated by India like the M777A2 Howitzer artillery guns and Apache helicopters. These services include logistics support, personnel training, contractor engineering, spares as well as repairs to the two platforms. "This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship and to improve the security of a major defense partner...," the War Department stated in its notification to the US Congress. The War Department added that the proposed sales would improve India's ability to "meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense, and deter regional threats" while affirming that the sale would not alter the basic military balance in the region....
