LUCKNOW, July 23 -- The Uttar Pradesh Prisons Administration and Reform Services Department and the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow, on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on academic programmes, research and capacity building. The MoU was signed by director general of prisons PC Meena and UPSIFS director GK Goswami at the prisons headquarters in Lucknow. Goswami said India's criminal justice system is undergoing a significant transformation with the implementation of the three new criminal laws. He said forensic science plays an increasingly important role in ensuring scientific investigation, preventing wrongful convictions and securing evidence-based convictions. PC Meena described the MoU as a milestone for both institutions.
