LUCKNOW, Feb. 10 -- Two men were killed and another left critically injured in separate hit-and-run incidents reported from different parts of Lucknow late on Sunday night, police said on Monday, adding that efforts are underway to identify the vehicles involved in both cases. In the first incident, a 58-year-old man died and his friend sustained serious injuries after an unidentified vehicle hit them in the Itaunja area. The accident occurred when Kunwar Bahadur Singh, a resident of Muhana village, was standing by the roadside with his friend Angad Singh, waiting for his brother. A speeding vehicle struck them, throwing both several metres from the road. According to the victim's son Nirmal, the two lay injured for nearly 40 minutes before help arrived. Kunwar Bahadur Singh was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment, while Angad Singh was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition. Doctors said he suffered multiple grievous injuries, including a severe leg fracture and the loss of a finger. In another incident the same night, a 55-year-old home guard, Yogendra Nath Shukla, was killed in a hit-and-run in the Mahanagar area. Shukla, who was posted at the Chief Minister's residence, was returning on his bicycle near Sai Mandir Smriti Vatika around 10.30 pm when an unidentified four-wheeler hit him.
