Two boys drown in river in Kushinagar
GORAKHPUR, June 16 -- Bodies of two children, who went missing after drowning in the Narayani River near Laxmipur Ghat under the Tamkuhi Raj police station limits in Kushinagar district, were found on Sunday evening following an intensive search operation that lasted nearly 24 hours, officials said.
The children had reportedly slipped into deep water while bathing in the river near their village on Saturday, triggering panic among family members and local residents. Rescue teams, assisted by divers and local volunteers, launched a search operation immediately after the incident.
SDM Akanksha Mishra said: "The search operation continued throughout the day, and the bodies of both children were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination."
Circle officer (CO) Jayant Yadav identified the deceased as Shivam, 11, and Pawan,13. He said the two boys were swept away by the strong current of the river, and their bodies were recovered nearly 2 km downstream from site of the incident.
Police have completed necessary legal formalities and sent bodies for autopsy, he added.
The SDM assured the bereaved families of all possible assistance from the government. She also urged residents to exercise caution near rivers and other water bodies, particularly during the summer months when children frequently venture out for bathing. htc...
