LUCKNOW, July 21 -- The death of a patient following a hand surgery at a private hospital in Krishnanagar has come under official scrutiny, with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) constituting a three-member inquiry committee after receiving a request from the police. Dr NB Singh said a three-member committee comprising an orthopaedic surgeon, a physician and an Additional CMO has been formed to investigate the case. The panel will record statements of both parties, examine medical records and submit its report to police. He said strict action would be taken if negligence or lapses endangering the patient's life are established. Lalji Sonkar, a resident of Aastik Nagar in Barai Ka Purva, Raebareli, was admitted to Satyarth Hospital on July 14 for a hand ailment. He underwent surgery, but condition deteriorated after procedure. He was shifted to ICU and died later that evening. DCP (South) Amit Anand has written to CMO Dr NB Singh seeking a report on the patient's treatment.
