Three killed as diesel tanker catches fire
VARANASI, Aug. 5 -- Three people were killed when a diesel tanker caught fire after colliding with a transformer pole near the electricity substation at Maltari-Mirzapur under the Jiyanpur police station area of Azamgarh during the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
The fire spread rapidly, and within minutes it became so intense that bystanders could not approach the tanker despite wanting to help. Towering flames soon engulfed the entire vehicle. Police and fire department teams rushed to the spot, and six fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the blaze. However, by then the tanker had been completely gutted. All three people on board were burnt to death.
One of the deceased was identified as Pradeep Kumar, 26, a resident of Bhikhampur village under the Mehnagar police station area. His family was devastated by the tragedy. Circle officer Sagari Deshraj Singh said efforts were under way to identify the other two victims. htc...
