Three children drown in Bareilly village pond
Meerut, May 4 -- A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday in Tilmas village of the Meerganj area in Bareilly, where three young children drowned in a roadside pond. The heartbreaking incident has left the entire village in mourning, with anguished families and grieving residents struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The victims have been identified as eight-year-old Ansh, nine-year-old Ayush, and eleven-year-old Pravendra. A fourth child, ten-year-old Gabneesh, narrowly escaped death and is the sole survivor of the incident. According to reports, the four children had gone to bathe in a pond located about one kilometre from their village at around 3 PM.
Locals said Ansh (10), Ayush (9), and Pravendra (9) ventured into deeper waters of the pond, where they lost balance and began to drown. Gabneesh, realizing the danger, started screaming for help, but no immediate assistance reached the spot in time to save the three children.
Raju Kashyap, a local fish farmer present near the pond, was reportedly asleep when the incident occurred.
He rushed to the spot after hearing Gabneesh's cries, but the children had already drowned by then. Raju managed to pull them out of the water, and their families hurried them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared all three children dead.
Police from Meerganj reached the scene soon after being informed and have initiated necessary legal proceedings, said DSP Ajay Kumar.
