Jhansi, May 17 -- Police on Saturday arrested three men, including two brothers, in connection with an illegal arms smuggling racket in the Sipri Bazar area of Jhansi district. A large cache of firearms, ammunition, knives, cash and jewellery was recovered during the operation. The accused were identified as Sant Dayanand Maharaj alias Bobby ,26, his younger brother Vivek Chauhan ,21, and their landlord Mukesh Srivas ,53. Police said the trio were allegedly waiting near a school in an isolated area to deliver the weapons to a customer when they were caught. During the raid, police recovered three 12-bore country-made guns, two .315 bore firearms, one .32 bore revolver, one pistol, around 120 live and empty cartridges, five Rampuri knives, jewellery and cash worth Rs.2.87 lakh. A case was registered against the accused under Sections 3, 4, 7, 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at Sipri Bazar police station. The three were later sent to judicial custody.
