Tent worker electrocuted by high tension wire, kin seek compensation
LUCKNOW, April 15 -- A tent worker died on Monday after coming into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension power line in the Gudamba area, triggering protests by his family and members of a farmers' union demanding compensation on Tuesday.
Reports said the deceased, identified as Shyamu Rawat (aged between 34 and 36 years), a resident of Sector J/Chhota Paharpur in Gudamba, was working at a religious event site in Behtwa village under Sarojini Nagar police station limits on April 13.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2 pm when Rawat was standing on an iron ladder to fix a tent pipe for a Bhagwat Katha. A sudden gust of wind caused the iron pipe to come into contact with a nearby 11kV overhead power line. He died on the spot.
Following the incident, family members, along with supporters of a farmers' union, staged a protest near a cremation ground, raising slogans and demanding adequate compensation. The agitation led to tension in the area.
Police officials, including Gudamba SHO Anjani Kumar Mishra, reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. A team from the electricity department and local administration also arrived to assess the situation.
The SHO said the autopsy had been conducted. However, the last rites had not been performed at the time of filing as the family continued to press for compensation. htc...
