Temple caretaker strangled to death, 3 held
LUCKNOW, Feb. 21 -- A 60-year-old temple caretaker was brutally beaten and strangled to death in the Dubagga area of Lucknow, with police arresting three local youths in connection with the crime.
The victim, Kallu Prajapati alias Baba, had been serving at a temple in Ashrayheen colony for nearly 25 years and lived within the premises. His body was found on Friday morning in a 15-foot-deep vacant plot adjacent to the temple, bearing injury marks on the head and neck.
Based on a complaint by his brother Puttielal, police registered a murder case against Ankit Tiwari, Rahul Rawat and Rahul Kanojia, all residents of the same locality. The trio has been arrested.
According to police, the accused allegedly assaulted Kallu late Thursday night after he objected to their activities at the temple.
He was reportedly dragged nearly 10 metres, beaten with sticks, and strangled before his body was dumped in the vacant plot.
Family members alleged that the accused had earlier threatened and assaulted the caretaker and that he had been opposing drug use in the area. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case. htc...
