Swift action by flood-relief team thwarts suicide bid
Gorakhpur, Aug. 24 -- A 25-year-old man who allegedly jumped into the Rapti river on Sunday morning in an apparent suicide bid was rescued by personnel of the 26th Battalion PAC's flood relief team, an official said. Laddu Manjhi, a resident of Bihar's West Champaran district, allegedly leapt into the river near Ramghat in GIDA police station area around 9 am.
According to witnesses, soon after hitting the water, he began to drown owing to the strong current. The PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) flood relief team deployed in the area for flood-preparedness training and rescue duties, immediately launched an operation using a motorboat.
The rescuers swiftly reached Manjhi and pulled him out safely, police said. htc...
