LUCKNOW, March 8 -- Police on Saturday arrested the driver allegedly responsible for a fatal road accident in Lucknow's Sushant Golf City area that claimed two lives and left a woman seriously injured on the eve of Holi. The accused, identified as Shivam Singh Chauhan, 31, was taken into custody after an investigation linked him to the SUV involved in the crash, a police statement said on Saturday. According to police, the accident took place on March 5 when the car, allegedly being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner, collided with a Bullet motorcycle near Mohanlalganj. The motorcycle was being ridden by Sushil Kumar, who was accompanied by his father-in-law Munnilal and wife Babli. Both died in the crash, while Babli sustained serious injuries. ADCP South Vasanth Rallapalli said, "Following a complaint by Sushil Kumar's son, Sumeesh, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sushant Golf City police station against the unidentified driver." The ADCP said police traced the vehicle to Shivam Singh Chauhan of Khurdahi Bazaar, Sushant Golf City, and arrested him after a tip-off.
