Shimla, May 10 -- Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Himalayan Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at Himachal Pradesh University to undertake detailed scientific studies on recurring cloudburst incidents in the state. The directions were issued by Sukhu while chairing a high-level meeting to discuss disaster risk reduction, resilience planning and related research initiatives. Sukhu directed the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) to allocate Rs 6 crore for capacity building and strengthening the centre through specialised training programmes. He also approved an additional grant of Rs 10 crore for institutional strengthening and capacity enhancement initiatives. He directed the HPSDMA to provide financial assistance for undertaking Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) studies through the centre and allocated Rs 1 crore for initiating GLOF-related scientific studies in the state.
