Siddharthnagar: Elderly man beaten to death
LUCKNOW, April 14 -- A 65-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbours in Siddharthnagar district following a dispute over allegations of his wife "peeping" into the neighbour's house, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in Maduwapur village under Khesraha police station limits on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Atmaram, was crossing the road outside his house to go out when he was attacked by his neighbour Bal Govind and his associates.
According to the police and family members, the accused assaulted Atmaram with sticks, batons and iron rods, leaving him critically injured. Hearing his cries, his son, Shashi Kapoor Verma, wife Munni Devi and daughter-in-law Pooja Devi rushed to save him, but they too were attacked and injured in the violence.
The injured Atmaram was taken to a local hospital in Khesraha, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11 pm during treatment.
Family members said the attack stemmed from a dispute earlier in the day when the accused allegedly accused Munni Devi of peeping into their house while she was on the terrace. Though the matter appeared to have been resolved at the time, tensions escalated later in the night.
"An FIR has been registered against Bal Govind, Prakash and Sunita on charges of murder. All three accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway," said Prashant Kumar Prasad, ASP, Siddharthnagar. Police said additional names may be added to case if they emerge during probe. htc...
