New Delhi, Oct. 26 -- A depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a several cyclone that will make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday. According to the weather department, depressions are brewing over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, with the latter expected to intensify into a cyclone on Monday morning. It is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the night of October 28 as a severe cyclone with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph. The severe cyclone is expected to cause heavy to very heavy rain over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal, IMD has warned. Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and adjoining South Odisha coasts were placed on pre-cyclone watch on Saturday. "The well marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards, concentrated into a depression and lay centred. about 420km west-southwest of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), 990 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 990 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 1000 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and 1040 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha)," an IMD bulletin issued on Saturday said. It is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards, intensify into a deep depression by October 26 and into a cyclonic storm over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal by October 27 morning, IMD forecast. "Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards, then north northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of October 28. Continuing to move north-northwestwards, it is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of October 28 as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph," it added. The other depression over eastcentral Arabian Sea, on Saturday, moved north-northwestwards and lay centered about 380 km west-northwest of Panjim (Goa), 400 km southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra), 620 km northwest of Mangalore (Karnataka) and 640km north-northwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep). It is likely to move nearly northwestwards across eastcentral Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours.The depression is expected to cause heavy rain over Goa, Konkan, Gujarat and Kerala, IMD predicted. A western disturbance is also likely to impact the likely to impact Western Himalayan Region from October 27 onwards, the MeT department said. "There is a feeble western disturbance. This may cause light rain over Gujarat and Rajasthan. The cyclone will impact the Andhra Pradesh coast. There will be no interaction between the two. Over the hills there is likely to be light rain and snowfall due to the western disturbance.
