Second wolf shot in Bahraich in 48 hours
Bahraich, Dec. 31 -- The Forest Department on Tuesday shot dead a wolf during a search operation in the Kaiserganj forest range, marking the second such incident in the past 48 hours amid intensified efforts to curb man-animal conflict in the district.
Officials said the wolf was sighted near Bhirgu Purwa village. When the rescue team reached the spot, the animal attempted to flee towards nearby agricultural fields. A trained shooter opened fire during the operation, killing the wolf on the spot.
Earlier on Sunday, another wolf was shot dead by a Forest Department team in the Birja Pakadiya area of the same forest range. Divisional forest officer Ram Singh Yadav said the wolf killed on Tuesday was spotted during a routine patrol around noon and was shot after a brief chase. He confirmed the animal was a four-year-old female. The carcass was sent for post-mortem examination and later cremated as per protocol.
With this, the total number of wolves killed in Bahraich has risen to eight. The district has remained on edge for the past four months following a series of wolf attacks that have claimed 13 lives, including that of 11 children and an elderly couple.
Forest officials said sustained patrolling and intensified operations have helped contain the situation. No wolf attacks have been reported in the past two weeks due to increased vigilance, night patrols and continuous monitoring....
