Roadways bus rams into car, three including couple killed in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, May 30 -- Three persons, including a couple, were killed while another youth sustained minor injuries after a speeding Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus rammed into a car, causing it to overturn into a roadside ditch in the trans-Ganga region of Prayagraj district on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred near Bheski village under the Handia police station area. According to police, the car went out of control after the collision, overturned multiple times and finally fell into a deep roadside ditch, triggering panic at the spot.
The deceased were identified as Rakesh Tripathi, 60, his wife Prabhavati Devi, 56, residents of Chauthar Mirganj in Jaunpur district, and Shubham Dubey, 27, a resident of Haripatti Mondh in Bhadohi district and a relative. Rahul Tripathi, 28, son of the deceased couple, sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
Police said Rakesh Tripathi, a retired employee of a Mumbai-based explosives factory, was travelling with his family to Jhunsi to visit his daughter's in-laws. The car was being driven by their relative, Shubham Dubey.
Eyewitnesses said that near a petrol pump in Bheski village, the roadways bus suddenly entered the wrong lane through a divider cut and rammed head-on into the approaching car. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn three to four times before plunging into the roadside ditch.
Hearing the loud crash, local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police. With the help of locals, Handia police rescued the injured occupants and shifted them to the Community Health Centre in Saidabad, where doctors declared Rakesh Tripathi, Prabhavati Devi and Shubham Dubey dead.
The bus driver fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle, but was later arrested by the police.
DCP (trans-Ganga) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said preliminary investigation revealed that the bus driver lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle, causing the bus to cross the divider and enter the opposite lane. A case has been registered on the complaint of the victims' family members and further legal action is underway, said SHO Anoop Saroj....
