LUCKNOW, Sept. 22 -- Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up its focus on road development, with projects worth over Rs.3,095 crore approved for several districts. Financial approval for the construction of 36 roads was granted in two meetings of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC), chaired by additional chief secretary (Finance) Deepak Kumar. The Public Works Department (PWD) is now preparing to begin the tendering process. The projects, costing between Rs.25 crore and Rs.665 crore, are expected to be completed before the polls. "Work will be done on a war footing," a senior official said. Projects costing more than Rs.200 crore will now be placed before the state Cabinet for final approval. The September 10 meeting cleared projects in 18 districts, including Sitapur, Mirzapur, Deoria, Sonbhadra, Banda, Varanasi, Jhansi and Lucknow.
