India, May 19 -- Retrospective work of former College of Arts & Craft, Lucknow, head of department and printmaking expert Manohar Lal Bhungra is on display in the state capital these days. Titled Chaapa: Imprint of a Lifetime, 51 exhibits of the veteran artist (79) are impressing the art lovers. Curated by artist-academician Vandana Sehgal, the exhibition was inaugurated by senior printmaker Jai Krishna Agrawal who had also been his mentor and teacher. "Printmaking is not merely a technical process, but an extension of lived experience, sensitivity, and artistic philosophy. It's not an easy art form and unlike painting one has to go through a training and learning process. The work I have displayed is a collection from my entire career since 1968," says Bhungra. Through diverse techniques such as woodcut, etching, engraving, lithography, collagraph, and screen printing, he engages with contemporary themes while remaining rooted in cultural memory. Curator Sehgal said, "This exhibition showcases his journey and the varied mediums and techniques he employed to express." Chief guest and ex-principal of College of Art & Craft, Agrawal reflected on Bhungra's artistic journey, noting how he began with linocut and woodcut before continuously experimenting with lithography, collagraph, and metal plate etching.
