PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 12 -- The anti-corruption organisation (ACO) Prayagraj team on Tuesday arrested a junior assistant of the sub-registrar's office in Khaga, Fatehpur, while allegedly accepting a Rs.1 lakh bribe, officials said. The accused, identified as Rahul Kumar Bauddh, allegedly first threatened a local resident with case registration by citing false facts and later demanded Rs.1 lakh to protect him from legal action, officials said. According to anti-corruption officials, Bhim Singh, a resident of Sangrampur Sani village under Khaga police station, lodged a written complaint alleging that Bauddh had demanded the money from him. Singh alleged that after registering a deed on June 17, junior assistant threatened him with case registration by presenting false facts and subsequently demanded Rs.1 lakh to "save" him from the case, officials said. Acting on the complaint, a 13-member ACO team laid a trap at the sub-registrar's office in Khaga. Bauddh was allegedly caught accepting the bribe at around 2pm on Tuesday.
