Rajasthan: Fourth woman dies after C-section at Kota hospitals within a week
Kota/Jaipur, May 12 -- One more woman has died in Kota's New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) following complications after a Caesarean delivery, officials said, adding that this is the fourth such death in Kota district within a week.
The deceased is the second woman to have lost her life following a C-section at the JK Lone Hospital in the last 24 hours. The other two cases were reported from the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH).
According to officials, the deceased woman from Shriram Nagar, had been admitted to JK Lon Hospital on May 7 for delivery. She underwent a C-section the same night and gave birth to a baby girl. However, within hours of the surgery, her health reportedly began deteriorating.
Principal of the Kota Medical College (under which JK Lon hospital is also operated), Nilesh Jain, said, "This is the fourth death due to similar reasons. First two deaths took place in the hospital of our medical college. The third and fourth deaths happened on Saturday and Sunday night at the JK Lon Hospital. Although no more new mothers were found having any such complication in JK Lon Hospital, four other women who fell sick in Kota Medical College are still critical and are being treated at the ICU."
"All of them had similar symptoms of drop in blood pressure, and infections in kidney which caused their death. The official team from Jaipur SMS Hospital is probing in both the facilities. They have also collected urine and blood samples and sent them to the laboratory to trace the specific reason. It is very unusual how all these women from two hospitals developed similar issues after their C-section," said Jain.
Following the woman's death, the locals including Pinky's family members and and Congress district unit in Kota staged a protest. They also refused to send the body for an autopsy till action is taken against doctors involved.
"This is sheer negligence from the hospitals. This is the result of pathetic condition of these government health facilities. We spoke to her relatives. They claimed that doctor ignored her health condition. They also tried to sit on the fact that she developed some complications in kidney after the surgery. We are sitting here with the family. No autopsy will take place till the doctors are shunted," said the president of Kota Congress unit, Gautam.
Meanwhile, the health secretary Gayatri Rathore also reached Kota on Monday evening to check the situation. She is also likely to meet the official investigating team and the Medical college authority....
