Udaipur, April 26 -- Authorities in Rajasthan's Salumber district have initiated door-to-door health checks at a village after it reported the deaths of two cousins within 18 hours of each other, people familiar with the matter said. According to officials, the deceased - Asha (6) and Rusiya (5) - died at their homes in Kunda villlage at around noon on Thursday and early on Friday, respectively. Both reportedly developed sudden vomiting fits followed by seizures. District collector Mohammad Junaid PP said that authorities admitted some other sick children at the community health centre in Lasadiya. "Considering the seriousness of the situation, seven medical teams have been formed and a comprehensive survey of the area has been initiated. We have directed teams to submit a detailed report at the earliest," he said. "The exact cause of death will be clear only after the report is received," a senior doctor said. Block chief medical and health officer Dr Sintu Kumawat said, "Our team is continuously monitoring the situation, conducting health check-ups, and collecting blood samples from children in the village." In addition, anti-larval activities and fogging have been intensified to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, said officials.
