LUCKNOW, Sept. 2 -- Rain brought Lucknow's roads to a near standstill on Tuesday, with traffic queues stretching across Shaheed Path, Faizabad Road and Gomti Nagar as commuters struggled through waterlogged and congested stretches during the evening rush. Shaheed Path witnessed long queues, with vehicles crawling for extended stretches. On Faizabad Road, bottlenecks at Kamta, Chinhat, Matiyari and Polytechnic worsened as traffic spilled onto adjoining roads. Gomti Nagar too saw severe congestion, including interior roads near Gomti Nagar railway station and Hyatt hotel. Roads connecting the area with Shaheed Path were particularly affected near Summit Building and Kamta. Sultanpur Road, Rae Bareli Road and Ahimamau in the southern parts also reported heavy congestion, while traffic crawled through Hazratganj, Hussainganj and Burlington in central Lucknow. In old Lucknow, narrow lanes added to the problem as vehicles remained stuck for long periods. "It was raining heavily and there was simply nowhere for the traffic to go. Even the smaller roads were packed," said a commuter travelling through Gomti Nagar. The heavy rain spell on Tuesday brought widespread disruption to Lucknow's power supply, with faults reported at around 30 substations across the city and adjoining areas. Several localities faced prolonged outages as rain-related faults and falling tree branches damaged power lines, leaving thousands of consumers without electricity. Aminabad was worst-affected areas. The situation was more severe in Golaganj, Bhootnath and Ganeshganj, where supply remained affected for five hours. Power disruptions were also reported from Birhana, Rakabganj, Khajua, Yahiyaganj and Mawaiyya. The disruption extended to the rapidly developing areas on the city's outskirts as well. Sarojini Nagar, Kamta, Chinhat, Mohanlalganj, Gosainganj and Kakori reported power-related problems after the showers as water affected supply from the substations. Incidents of branches coming down on electrical lines were reported from Mahanagar, Nishatganj, Jankipuram, Rahimabad and Mohanlalganj.
