Push for PNG network expansion in Gkp: Authorities fix monthLY rent for domestic meters
Gorakhpur, March 24 -- In a significant move to accelerate the expansion of the piped natural gas (PNG) network in Gorakhpur, authorities on Monday fixed the monthly rent for domestic gas meters.
The decision aims to bring clarity in billing and encourage more households to shift from LPG to PNG.
Radha Mohan Mishra, installation officer of Torrent Pipeline Gas Connection, said, "Efforts are underway to expand the PNG network in Gorakhpur. The aim is to provide uninterrupted, safe, and affordable fuel directly to households, reducing dependence on LPG cylinders."
He added that currently over two dozen localities in the city-including South Betiya Hata, Khorabar, Taramandal, Jungle Saligram, Ramjan Ki Nagar, and GIDA-are covered under the pipeline network.
He noted that fixing the meter rent will remove ambiguity around charges and make PNG connections more accessible and consumer-friendly, especially as the state pushes for wider adoption of cleaner fuel.
Project manager Sunil Gupta said, "Fixing the gas meter rent is a crucial step to ensure transparency. It will help consumers better understand their monthly expenses and encourage them to opt for PNG connections."
He further stated that the move is part of a broader plan to increase PNG coverage across Gorakhpur, with pipeline infrastructure being rapidly extended to new residential areas.
Authorities are targeting a substantial rise in household connections in the coming months. htc...
