Chandigarh, Oct. 18 -- A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Friday sent Punjab Police deputy inspector general (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar, held in a bribery case, to 14-day judicial custody, even as the federal agency seized cash amounting to Rs.7.5 crore in searches at premises linked to the officer, CBI said. The agency, in a statement, also said gold jewellery weighing 2.5kg, 26 luxury watches including Rolex and Rado, documents pertaining to 50 immovable properties in the name of the DIG and his relatives, locker keys and details of multiple bank accounts, and four firearms along with 100 live cartridges were also recovered from the premises. Ropar Range DIG Bhullar, along with his middleman Kirshanu, was arrested by CBI from his office in Mohali for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs.8 lakh from a Mandi Gobindgarh-based scrap dealer. According to the complaint filed by the scrap dealer with CBI earlier this month, the DIG had allegedly demanded illegal gratification through his middleman for "settling" a first information report (FIR) lodged against him at Sirhind police station on charges of cheating and forgery registration, and to ensure that no further coercive or adverse police action was taken against his business....
