LUCKNOW, Feb. 8 -- In a recent meeting of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Fund Management Committee, the fund managed by the PWD for construction, strengthening, and repair of state roads and link roads, it was decided that proposals for road construction be taken from public representatives. The new proposals will not be taken for fiscal 2026-27. Once the proposals are obtained they will be evaluated by a committee and upon approval, will be worked upon. Last year PWD had worked upon roads with a budget of Rs 22,000 crore. Till now, proposals were received by the PWD from the district administration, department engineers and also public representatives. However, public representatives often raised the issue that their recommendations remained pending. With elections now just a year away in the state, the step will benefit public representatives politically too. "Public representatives often complain that their constituency was left behind in development work particularly in getting road connectivity. With proposals to come by April and May, their demands for roads shall be addressed in the next few months only," said a senior official in the department.htc...
