Bahraich, June 14 -- Uttar Pradesh principal secretary for environment, forest and climate change, V Hekali Zhimomi, conducted a review of conservation and community development initiatives in the Katarniaghat region on Saturday. Accompanied by principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) Anuradha Vemuri, Zhimomi inaugurated a selfie point at the eco-awareness centre and chaired a review meeting with forest division officials to discuss biodiversity and conflict mitigation strategies. Key developments during the visit included the launch of a collaborative five-year micro-plan designed by the Bishunapur eco-development committee, the forest department and WWF-India to strengthen sustainable development. Other highlights include the distribution of certificates to participants of a 12-day training programme aimed at empowering local women's self-help groups, and commendation of the efforts of 'Bagh Mitras' and 'Gaj Mitras' for their role in reducing human-wildlife conflict. The principal secretary directed officials to expedite community outreach programmes to ensure residents near forest areas benefit from welfare schemes.
