Prime land sold for BJP state HQ; LDA plans to issue allotment letter
LUCKNOW, June 5 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has reportedly sold a prime land parcel in Jiamau likely for the construction of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) new state headquarters in the city.
Sources in the LDA said the authority has completed the auction process for the high-value plot and plans to issue an allotment letter to the bidder in the coming days.
Located in one of Lucknow's most sought-after localities, the land is just a short distance from the chief minister's official residence.
According to sources, the land spans around 5462.33 square meters and bears property number OFC-01 in the Jiamau locality. The total estimated value of the plot is Rs 44.58 crore. The plot was registered under the Vipin Khand Extension Scheme near the 1090 crossing.
According to sources, the proposed headquarters will be a six-storey state-of-the-art building equipped with large conference halls, meeting rooms, administrative offices and modern facilities for party activities.
The official communication from the LDA to the bidder stated that an application for a commercial property under the Gomti Nagar Scheme was submitted on May 27. Subsequently, during the e-auction for commercial properties held recently, the applicant bid for the property, as stated in the official letter.
The development comes months after a proposal related to the land sparked controversy during a special meeting of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) in February 2026. Listed as Agenda Point No. 10 under "other proposals," the item sought approval for the sub-lease of land belonging to the Deen Dayal Seva Trust for the BJP's proposed headquarters. The proposal drew criticism as it was not included among the principal agenda items despite its significance.
The plot had remained vacant for several months after being transferred from the LMC to the LDA. The development authority later put the land up for auction, attracting interest from several prominent developers and bidders due to its prime location and commercial value.
Sources familiar with the matter said the BJP emerged as the successful bidder in the auction. According to BJP leaders, the party's existing state headquarter in Hazratganj will also remain operational. According to party sources, a prominent developer and Rajya Sabha MP of the BJP from Uttar Pradesh will execute the project.
According to BJP sources, the party leadership is serious about laying the foundation stone for the new state headquarters.
It is being discussed that Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Nitin Nabin may lay the foundation stone of the proposed building in July.
However, the party has not made an official announcement yet. State BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary has reportedly already discussed the project with the party's Rajya Sabha MP, who will execute it.
When contacted by Hindustan Times, LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar declined to comment on the reported sale and stated that the tender process remains open.
Plans are also being explored to construct a rooftop helipad to facilitate the movement of senior national leaders visiting the state capital....
