Priest found dead at temple in Agra, murder suspected
AGRA, Dec. 30 -- A 68-year-old priest was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a temple in village Viprawali, located within the limits of Pinahat police station in Agra district, police said on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Patiram Kushwaha, who had been serving as the pujari at Chaumukha Mata Mandir for several years. He also cultivated crops in a field adjoining the temple and lived in a room on the temple premises.
Deputy commissioner of police (Agra East) Rural Abhishek Agarwal reached the spot along with the field unit and dog squad to assess the situation.
According to police, Kushwaha was allegedly attacked with a screwdriver and an iron rod, both of which were found near the body.
Family members, who live in a nearby town, visited the temple on Sunday and found Kushwaha lying on a cot with a cloth placed over his face. On removing the cloth, they discovered injuries on his face. A piece of paper containing names and amounts was also recovered from the spot, allegedly indicating a dispute over money.
Police officials said a case is being registered and further investigation is underway.htc...
