GORAKHPUR, Oct. 26 -- A 32-year-old pregnant woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a government residential quarter on the premises of a community health centre (CHC) in Deoria district on Sunday morning. Her family alleged that she was strangled to death over dowry demands, police said. The deceased, identified as Gudiya Vishwakarma, was found dead in a room at the staff quarters of Rudrapur CHC. Her sister-in-law, Purnima Vishwakarma, is posted at the facility as a staff nurse, and Gudiya's family had been staying at her government accommodation. SP Abhijit R Shankar said police were informed about Gudiya's death at the Rudrapur CHC staff quarters. Her body was found on a bed with injury marks on the neck and head. The woman's mother, Lalti Devi, alleged that her daughter had been repeatedly harassed by her in-laws over dowry demands.A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint, and further legal proceedings are underway....
