IMPHAL, July 29 -- Unknown miscreants in Manipur's Ukhrul district had blocked an Indian Postal Service mail van and burnt 35 postal bags carrying ATM cards, passports and letters at Shangkai village, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The staff of the Indian Postal Service, Head Office, Imphal branch, staged a one-day protest on Tuesday at the office premises. Ukhrul sub-post office postmaster, Wungreipam Rimai said, "A few unknown miscreants, who identified themselves as bandh supporters of the ongoing counter economic blockade in the state, detained the mail van at Shangkai Kuki village, Ukhrul district along the NH-202 and burnt all the parcels forcibly." The parcels contained ATM cards, foreign passports, letters, other parcels including educational certificates and other household items, Rimai added. The Ukhrul district post office lodged a complaint with the Litan police station, requesting a thorough investigation.
