Post offices in Lko to offer Aadhaar services even on Sundays
LUCKNOW, May 9 -- In a move aimed at improving access to Aadhaar-related services, the Department of Posts has decided to provide Aadhaar facilities at select post offices in Lucknow even on Sundays.
Under the first phase of the initiative, eight post offices in the state capital, including the General Post Office (GPO) and Chowk Head Post Office, have been identified for the service. The Aadhaar centres at these locations will function every Sunday from 8am to 4pm.
Officials said residents will be able to avail services such as fresh Aadhaar enrolment, address and mobile number updates, and biometric updates on holidays as well.
The Sunday facility will be available at Lucknow GPO, Chowk Head Post Office, Indiranagar, Gomti Nagar, Aliganj, Rajendra Nagar, Alambagh and Awas Vikas Colony post offices.
Postmaster General, Lucknow Headquarters Region, Sunil Kumar Rai, said the initiative was launched to make Aadhaar services more accessible and convenient for citizens, especially working people who are unable to visit centres on weekdays.
According to the department, a total of 156 Aadhaar service centres are currently operational in the Lucknow Headquarters Region. In addition, Aadhaar-related services are also being provided through 886 mobile devices that offer doorstep facilities.
Officials added that six additional devices are being used for special camps in rural areas, including anganwadi centres, primary schools, urban local bodies and primary health centres.
The postal department has also introduced a two-shift Aadhaar work system at 19 post offices in the region. Under the arrangement, Aadhaar counters are functioning from 8am to 2pm and from 2pm to 8pm.
Rai said the department plans to extend the Sunday Aadhaar service to other districts in the region in the future and appealed to residents to make maximum use of the facility. htc...
